Why Goal Setting is the Foundation of Every Successful Business

August 26, 2025Running a business without goals is like driving without a map—you’ll get somewhere, but probably not where you wanted.

Clear goals provide focus, motivation, and a way to measure success. One of my first red flags when speaking with a new client is when I ask, “How big are you trying to grow your business?” Often the reply is “As big as I can get it!” Unfortunately, the client often times doesn’t even realize what they are saying, first off not everyone is equipped to run a large organization. At any rate, instead of vague dreams like “I want more customers,” try specific, measurable ones: “I want 10 new clients by the end of the quarter.” That single shift turns hope into a target.

Once you set a goal, break it into action steps. Want those 10 new clients? Maybe that means reaching out to 5 referral partners each week, posting consistently on social media, and attending 2 networking events a month. Suddenly, the big goal feels doable. Sometimes its so hard to implement this, if it were easy everyone would be doing it, as the old saying goes. For some of us, reaching out for “help” from these referral partners can feel difficult or embarrassing. I used to really struggle with this, fortunately I have a great contact named Tara, who has this incredible skill set for sales and sales processes.
